Ruth Shany was born in Germany and in 1939 emigrated with her parents
to Shanghai, China, where she lived for 10 years. During this period she
studied Chinese painting on silk under the Japanese art professor Taishi
Nishio. In 1949 she arrived in Israel. She went to Costa Rica and Nicaragua with her husband, where he served as Israeli ambassador. Only in the years 1972 - 78, during her stay in Geneva and Paris, did she finally settle down on full-time painting. She participated in many group exhibitions and was invited to show her work at numerous one-woman shows in Israel, Germany, U.S.A. and Costa Rica. Since her return from Europe in 1978, she spends her summers in Safed, where she exhibits her work in her own gallery. |
